ROME, ITALY - SEP. 16: Thousands of protesters gathered in Rome, Italy to protest against Israel's genocide in Gaza and its recent ground offensive, on Tuesday (Sep. 16).
Anti-Israel protests were held simultaneously in major cities of the country such as Rome, Milan, Naples, Turin, and Bologna.
The march in Rome, which began in front of Sapienza University, continued to Via Dei Fori Imperiali in the city center.
Thousands of demonstrators carried Palestinian flags and banners reading "Gaza, we are coming," "Stop the genocide in Gaza," and "Stop the agreements with Israel.
They also chanted slogans saying "Freedom for Palestine" and "We are all anti-Zionists."
The demonstrators stressed that their march aimed to oppose the "Greater Israel Project" and the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.
The protesters accused Italy and the EU of being complicit in Israel.
Some demonstrators also emphasized their support for the Global Sumud Flotilla, which set out from Spain, Tunisia, Italy, and Greece to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza.
Protestors called for a general strike for Gaza on Monday, September 22nd.
The expanded assault on Gaza City comes as nearly a million Palestinians remain trapped in the city under relentless bombardment.
Since October 2023, the Israeli army has killed almost 65,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in Gaza. The assault has rendered the enclave uninhabitable and triggered widespread starvation and disease.
