Phoenix, United States - October 04, 2025 10/04/2025 02:00 am GMT-0700 GLENDALE, Ariz. – Rural Metro Fire Department crews responded to reports of an unknown fire near the Glendale Avenue bridge over the Agua Fria River. Crews arrived to find a fast-moving brush fire in the riverbed. The assignment was quickly upgraded, and several fire department resources from the cities of Glendale, Phoenix, El Mirage, Tolleson, Peoria, Surprise, and Avondale responded to assist. Crews worked quickly to establish positions on both the east and west sides of the fire. With no hydrants immediately available, crews used fire department tanker trucks to transport water to crews on the fireground. Crews were able to stop the forward progress of the flames approximately one hour after arriving at the scene. No structures were threatened, and no injuries were reported. Crews are expected to remain at the scene for several hours, working to ensure all hot spots have been extinguished. An estimated acreage for the fire has yet to be confirmed.
