Burkina Faso: JNIM Militants Seize Control of Bla in Burkina Faso’s Boulsa Province
Boulsa, Burkina Faso - October 07, 2025 Militants affiliated with Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) reportedly captured the town of Bla in Boulsa province, near the city of Kaya, amid escalating violence in central Burkina Faso. Local sources said the armed group entered Bla after a brief confrontation with local defense volunteers, forcing security forces and residents to flee. The militants are believed to have seized administrative buildings and communication points before hoisting their flag over the town. The fall of Bla marks another territorial gain for JNIM, an al-Qaeda-linked coalition that has intensified attacks across the Sahel region in recent months.
