China: National Day holiday unleashes wave of leisure consumption in China
Storyline: National Day holiday unleashes wave of leisure consumption in China [Voice_over] Theaters and concert halls across China are cashing in on one of their busiest periods in the year as theater-goers flock to auditoriums during the eight-day holiday. Beijing is leading the way with more than 200 theaters and concert halls including those at a national level. "Yongle Weiyang," a new dance drama, premiered in Beijing's Poly Theater on the third day of the holiday. The drama, which brings alive China's ancient aesthetics, has received positive reviews from audiences. Film-themed tours have become popular in China, with visitors flocking to movie-inspired locations. Huangshan's landscapes, the inspiration for Avatar, attracted many tourists. Meanwhile, An hui's Ma'anshan gained cultural significance through its connection with poet Li Bai, featured in the film Chang An. The city launched a "Li Bai Cultural Trail" linking different tourist sites, complete with photo spots and poetry games, allowing visitors to experience the blend of cinema and culture. [Sound_bite] Tao Ling, Director of the Market Development Department, Culture and Tourism Bureau of Ma'anshan City: "After the success of the film Chang An, we launched a premium tour route titled 'Following the Poet Li Bai Through the City of Poetry.' Li Bai left many historical traces in Ma'anshan, including Caishiji, Heng Mountain, the Li Bai Cultural Park, and Danyang Lake. Based on these sites, we designed this specialized itinerary." [Voice_over] For tech geeks, the holiday is once-in-a-year window to venture into China's tech capital - Shenzhen, which stands at the forefront of the country's innovation in electronics. The city's Huaqiangbei Street, which is home to the world's largest electronics market, is welcoming tech pilgrims from both China and overseas. [Sound_bite] Liu Zhigang, Salesperson, Huaqiangbei Electronic World: "The market is super busy. We received 31,000 to 32,000 visitors daily prior to the holiday. Now the number has surged to 35,000. That's a big jump." [Voice_over] With a wide range of consumer electronics, Huaqiangbei never fails to satisfy anyone who wants to buy or just get their hands on the most interesting and affordable gadgets.
