The demonstration was organized by the "Committee for the Support of Al-Aqsa," following a call by Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, the leader of the Houthi group. According to an Anadolu correspondent, the city's largest public square was filled with massive crowds celebrating the halt to the prolonged period of killing and destruction in the coastal enclave. Protesters waved Yemeni and Palestinian flags and held banners with slogans such as "Gaza is victorious... by the flood of the free" and "America is a straw and it broke." Through their chants, attendees expressed their ongoing commitment to the Palestinian cause. One prominent slogan underscored a cautious stance: "We will continue to follow and monitor... If they renege, we will do our duty." The first phase of the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas came into force on Friday. The agreement, mediated by Türkiye, Egypt, and Qatar under US supervision, aims to end two years of Israeli military operations in Gaza. The conflict since October 2023 has resulted in the deaths of nearly 67,200 Palestinians in the enclave, according to reports, with a majority being women and children, and has left widespread destruction, rendering much of the territory uninhabitable.
