At least 20 passengers were killed and 16 injured when a bus travelling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpu caught fire on October 14.

The bus' conductor Rafiq Khan has been hailed a hero after pushing open the vehicle's doors so passengers could escape. Khan was one of those who suffered burns and is being treated in hospital.

In a tragic incident, as many as twenty passengers were killed and 16 were critically injured when a private bus travelling from Jaisalmer to Jodhpur caught fire on Tuesday.

As soon as the fire was reported, fire tenders and Indian Army personnel stationed nearby swung into action to control the blaze. Their prompt response helped prevent the fire from spreading further. The bus was completely charred in the incident.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed grief over the loss of lives in the tragic incident. "Distressed by the loss of lives due to a mishap in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families during this difficult time. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured," PM Modi was quoted as saying in an X post by the PMO. "An ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs 50,000," he said.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Ashok Gehlot also expressed grief over the loss of lives in the tragic incident.
