ALASKA, US - OCT. 16, 2025: A powerful typhoon named Halong struck western Alaska over the weekend, leaving one person dead and displacing more than 1,500 residents, local media reported Thursday, Oct. 16.

Authorities said heavy rain and strong winds caused severe flooding in several coastal areas. Fifty-one people were rescued from rising waters, while one person was found dead after being swept away.

Officials reported that some homes were torn from their foundations and carried away by floodwaters, and several villages were completely submerged. Emergency shelters were opened as displaced residents were evacuated to nearby towns and city centers.
