La Rioja, Argentina - October 14, 2025 A group of paleontologists discovered one of the oldest dinosaurs that already displayed a long neck and a large body at the same time, something never seen in specimens more than 220 million years old. The discovery occurred in the province of La Rioja, Argentina, within a previously unexplored mountainous region. This is an unknown species of herbivorous dinosaur. The researchers who described it belong to the Regional Center for Scientific Research and Technology Transfer of La Rioja (CRILAR) of Conicet (National Institute of Statistics and Census), the National University of La Plata, the National University of La Rioja, and the Bernardino Rivadavia Argentine Museum of Natural Sciences (MACN), and named it Huayracursor jaguensis.
