Rising political tension over anti-immigration sentiment in the U.S. found its way into the ICE-themed Halloween setup known locally as the “N.J. Halloween House” on Friday, Oct. 17. The yard showcased puppets wearing ICE uniforms, doll figures resembling the children of undocumented migrants hanging from a rope, and a representation of "Alligator Alcatraz," a temporary migrant detention center in Florida that has been a source of controversy. A mask of former US President Joe Biden's face was also seen hanging next to the display, which portrayed undocumented migrants behind a wire fence. Another section of the fear-themed, open-air exhibit featured a visual display depicting an ICE-labeled vehicle running over a mannequin, which drew criticism on social media. Social media users also pointed out that the homeowner who created the display had placed flags and products supporting President Donald Trump in the same area. While some US citizens who came to see the highly shared political decorations expressed support for the visuals, a significant portion voiced strong reactions, arguing that the display targeted undocumented migrants.
