Switzerland: Commemorations held in Geneva to mark 80th anniversary of UN
Commemorations were held in Geneva, Switzerland to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the United Nations (UN) on Friday. This year marks 80 years since the UN Charter, the founding document of the organization, came into force. The UN officials attending the UN80 Ceremony highlighted the world body's work on global issues. The UN is struggling as the United States, historically the group's largest historical donor, withholds its funds, while the Trump administration reviews its relationships with all international organizations. This has led to a substantial cuts to the budgets of key UN programs including humanitarian aid, peacekeeping and health initiatives. A photo exhibition titled "Shared Lives, Shared Future" commemorating the 80th anniversary of the UN was opened at the Palais des Nations on Friday, which coincided with the United Nations Day. The exhibition presented 27 stories showing that the UN made a difference in people's daily lives, from advancing peace and security to providing humanitarian aid.
