Seattle, United States - October 27, 2025 Seattle police officers rushed to save a man who apparently set himself on fire in the University District early this morning. At around 3:10 a.m., patrol officers responded to reports of a man on fire in the 4500 block of Brooklyn Avenue Northeast. They arrived within five minutes to find him engulfed in flames, running through an alleyway. Officers shouted for him to stop, drop, and roll, but he continued running. They then approached and used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames as he collapsed to the ground. The Seattle Fire Department treated the man at the scene and transported him to Harborview Medical Center with second-degree burns covering his body. Police reviewed video footage from a nearby building showing the man had fallen asleep next to a makeshift fire, which quickly spread to his clothing, engulfing him in flames. Thanks to the quick response of first responders, the man survived. He remains at Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.
