Spain: Sevilla Drowns In Record-Breaking Storm As Streets Turn Into Rivers
Seville, Spain - October 29, 2025 Video filmed by Alejandro Moreno shows torrential rain hammering the city as a powerful Atlantic storm hit Andalusia on October 29, 2025. The province was placed under an orange alert that escalated to red for extreme rainfall, with gale-force winds and flash floods sweeping through from mid-morning. Neighborhoods including La Cartuja and Ronda del Tamarguillo were engulfed as water surged through streets, overwhelming drainage systems and cutting power in several areas. More than 115 liters per square meter fell within twelve hours, shattering Sevilla’s October rainfall record set in 1906. Major roads like Avenida de Llanes and nearby underpasses turned into deep pools, leaving vehicles stranded and traffic paralyzed. Three tributaries of the Guadalquivir River overflowed, severing highways and forcing evacuations. Sevilla’s 112 emergency service received over 150 calls by midday for flooded homes, garages, and public buildings. Two hospitals, including Hospital Macarena, reported water flooding inside wards. Police used megaphones to warn residents to stay away from danger zones. Dozens of people were rescued from trapped vehicles and inundated buildings, though no deaths were reported. Public transport stopped, and schools were closed early. It was one of Andalusia’s wettest October days ever recorded, with Huelva, Cordoba, and Cadiz also facing chaos. Spain’s weather agency AEMET had warned days earlier of DANA low-pressure risks, as the 2025 European storm season continues to batter the region. Cleanup efforts and safety advisories remain in place.
