Reeves Reprimanded By Prime Minister Over Rental Oversight But Escapes Further Action. Chancellor Rachel Reeves will face no further action after failing to obtain the correct licence for renting out her family home, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has confirmed. He described the situation as “regrettable” after Reeves initially failed to share all relevant emails about the issue. The chancellor first claimed she was unaware a licence was needed, but later discovered messages showing her husband had been informed by the letting agent which promised to handle the process — an application that was never actually made due to an “oversight.” Reeves apologised for the “inadvertent mistake,” accepting full responsibility. Conservative Party chairman Kevin Hollinrake, however, called for a full investigation, accusing her of changing her story as new details emerged. Reeves rented out her four-bedroom south London home after moving into 11 Downing Street in July. Southwark Council could still issue an unlimited fine if the case proceeds to court.
