South Korea: "APEC Blue" skies a lasting feature in China: APEC official
The remarkable blue skies that Beijing displayed during the 2014 APEC meetings have become a lasting feature of China's environmental landscape, said Eduardo Pedrosa, executive director of the APEC Secretariat. Speaking in an exclusive interview with China Central Television (CCTV) ahead of the convening of the 32nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea (ROK) on Friday, Pedrosa attributed the achievement to China's successful economic transition. When reminded of the term "APEC blue", coined during the 2014 APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Beijing to describe the exceptionally clear skies, Pedrosa said he remembers that term vividly. "APEC blue" became the focus of a national pledge for lasting air quality improvement, with subsequent pollution control measures delivering tangible outcomes. "I'm glad to know there's still an 'APEC blue' and that it's not just a temporary phenomenon. But it's also something that speaks to the development of our economies, from heavy industrial economy to lighter industries to services. But there's more light industry and more value-added in the sort of manufacturing that we do," Pedrosa said. The video shows: Gyeongju, ROK - Recent (CCTV - No access Chinese mainland) 1.
