BURSA, TÜRKİYE - NOV. 5, 2025: Ahead of Pope Leo XIV’s upcoming visit to Türkiye, a Vatican delegation visited several historical sites in the northwestern province of Bursa on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
The 38-member delegation, consisting of priests and nuns from the Vatican, including the pope’s vicar general, Cardinal Baldassare Reina, initially visited the Iznik Basilica and Hagia Sophia Mosque.
The group later visited the historic Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Building and Koza Han, where Cardinal Baldassare Reina greeted local shopkeepers.
The delegation also included the Vicar of the Diocese of Rome, Renato Tarantelli Baccari, Sister Rebecca, Director of the Pilgrimage Pastoral Office of the Vicariate of Rome, Antonia Romana Nazzaro, among other officials. They also visited the Grand Bazaar and the Protestant Church.
According to the schedule shared by the Vatican Press Office, Pope Leo XIV is expected to visit Iznik on Nov. 28 to attend the ceremony marking the 1,700th anniversary of the First Council of Nicaea, which holds a significant place in Christian history.
