Storyline: China's new-generation high-speed train CR450 to set new global benchmarks [Voice_over] China's high-speed train, the CR450, is undergoing operational testing along the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu high-speed railway as it works to set new global benchmarks for rail performance. Rolling off the production line last year, the CR450 is faster than its predecessor, the CR400, with several changes to its design. For example the CR450's nose cone is two and a half meters longer. And it's overall height is 20 centimeters shorter. Plus the train was made of advanced lightweight materials like carbon fiber composites and magnesium alloys which has reduced its weight by 50 tons. Together, those changes have cut the train's aerodynamic drag by 22 percent, enabling it to travel at 400 kilometers per hour, about 50 kilometers faster than the CR400. The CR450 is scheduled to undergo comprehensive near-operational trials next year. [Restrictions: No access Chinese mainland]
