4. VARIOUS OF PEOPLE SHOPPING IN SHEIN STORE PARIS, FRANCE - NOV. 5: France urged the European Union on Thursday, Nov. 6, to launch an investigation into Chinese fast-fashion retailer Shein over the sale of some banned products as the company opened its first permanent retail space in Paris.

Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said Shein was in breach of EU rules and called on the European Commission to act without delay.

In a letter to EU tech chief Henna Virkkunen, Finance Minister Roland Lescure and Digital Minister Anne le Henanff also demanded an immediate probe.

The company recently opened a permanent, 1,000-square-meter retail corner on the sixth floor of BHV Marais, marking its first permanent store worldwide after years of operating pop-up shops.

Critics argue that Shein's ultra-competitive pricing and meteoric rise will further damage traditional French retailers, many of which have already faced staff layoffs and store closures.

Founded in China and now headquartered in Singapore, Shein has become a major global force in the fast-fashion industry, known for selling a wide array of products at very low prices.
