1. VARIOUS OF SYRIAN PRESIDENT AHMAD AL-SHARAA ARRIVING AT WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON DC, US - NOV. 10: Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa arrived at the White House on Monday, Nov. 10, for talks with US President Donald Trump, marking the first-ever visit by a Syrian head of state to Washington DC.

According to a statement shared by the White House, al-Sharaa entered the building at 11:37 a.m. local time, and the meeting between the two leaders was held behind closed doors.

The official note said the discussion was expected to cover the possible lifting of US sanctions on Syria and a range of regional issues.

No additional details were provided regarding the duration or content of the talks.

Last week, the US State Department expressed support for the Congress’s repeal of the Caesar Act, which imposed sanctions on Syria.

Sharaa’s visit to the US is the first by a Syrian president since the country’s independence in 1946.

Since Bashar al-Assad’s ouster in late 2024, Syria’s new administration has taken several measures to restore security in Syria and pursued political and economic reforms while promoting social cohesion and working to expand cooperation with regional and international partners.

Assad, Syria’s leader for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia last December, ending the Baath Party regime, which had been in power since 1963. A new transitional administration led by President Sharaa was formed in January.
