King Felipe VI of Spain arrived in Beijing on Tuesday as he continues his four-day state visit to China at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The king was greeted by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, upon his arrival at the airport. King Felipe VI, who arrived in Chengdu of southwest China's Sichuan Province on Monday, is embarking on his first trip to China since ascending the throne in 2014. The visit also marks the first by a Spanish king in 18 years. President Xi is scheduled to hold talks with King Felipe VI on bilateral ties and other issues of common interest. The king is also expected to meet with Premier Li Qiang and China's top legislator Zhao Leji in Beijing. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership. Under the guidance of the two heads of state, China-Spain relations have maintained robust growth, with deepening cooperation in trade, investment, clean energy, and culture. King Felipe VI's visit also comes as both countries look to deepen people-to-people exchanges and strengthen coordination on multilateral affairs. China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said earlier that it hopes this visit will help consolidate traditional friendship, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and inject more stability and positive energy into a world facing increasing uncertainty.
