Turkish military cargo plane with at least 20 onboard crashes in Georgia
This is the dramatic moment a Turkish military cargo plane with at least 20 on board crashed in Georgia.
Footage shows the aircraft spinning in the air before plunging into remote mountains, with all military personnel feared dead yesterday.
The Lockheed C-130 Hercules cargo plane was flying from Azerbaijan to Turkey when it experienced technical difficulties.
An incident report from the Aviation Safety Network stated: 'A Turkish AF Lockheed C-130EM Hercules, operated by 222 Filo, flight HVK543, disintegrated mid-air and crashed near Sighnaghi, Georgia, shortly after departing from Azerbaijan.
'All 20 occupants are said to have died in the crash.
'ADS-B data from Flightradar24 indicates that the aircraft took off from Ganja at 10:19 UTC. The final datapoint recorded was at 10:48 UTC at FL240.'
Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed casualties, saying he was 'deeply saddened' by the incident.
Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev added: 'We were deeply saddened by the tragic news of the loss of servicemen in the crash of a Turkish Air Force military cargo plane, which took off from Ganja and crashed in Georgian territory.
'In this moment of sorrow, I share your grief and, on behalf of myself and the people of Azerbaijan, extend heartfelt condolences to you, the families and loved ones of the deceased, and the fraternal people of Turkey.'
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
