Philippines: Typhoon Fung-Wong leaves 27 dead in Philippines
Storyline: Typhoon Fung-Wong has claimed 27 lives and affected more than 3.59 million people across the Philippines, according to the latest report released by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on Wednesday morning. The fierce, Category 5 typhoon made landfall over Aurora province in the eastern part of Luzon Island of the Philippines on Sunday night, hitting the municipality of Dinalungan around 21:10 local time (1310 GMT), according to the state weather bureau. Search operations continue for two missing individuals as the country begins assessing the full extent of damage caused by the typhoon. As of 06:00 local time Wednesday, the powerful storm has caused widespread destruction, triggering 578 flooding incidents and damaging over 40,000 houses. Many infrastructures and public facilities were upset, with 668 schools, hospitals and other public facilities damaged, 625 roads and 78 bridges affected, and power outages reported in 497 cities and towns, according to the report. Local services have been severely compromised, with water supply disrupted in 29 towns and communication systems down in 121 areas. The storm's impact forced a total of 1,054 cities and towns to suspend classes and 807 to halt work. In Aurora province's Dipaculao town, one of the hardest-hit areas, aerial footage taken on Tuesday showed multiple sections of coastal highways collapsed, cutting off vehicular access. Local authorities have initiated emergency repair operations to restore connectivity. Shotlist: Dipaculao Town, Aurora Province, Philippines - Nov 11, 2025: 1.
