Apple Removes Two Popular Gay Dating Apps From China Store After Government Order. Apple has confirmed it removed China’s leading gay dating apps, Blued and Finka, from its App Store after an order from the Cyberspace Administration of China. “We follow the laws of the countries where we operate,” an Apple spokesperson said, adding that the removal applies only to the China storefront. The move has sparked concern among China’s LGBT community, with users fearing further erasure of queer spaces online. A “lite” version of Blued remains available, while some other apps like Jicco and Jack’d are still accessible in China. Blued, one of the world’s largest gay dating platforms, has tens of millions of downloads and is a key part of China’s online LGBTQ+ culture. Grindr was similarly removed in 2022 as authorities tightened control over content deemed “inappropriate.” Homosexuality was decriminalized in 1997, but same-sex marriage is still not recognized, and several advocacy groups have been forced to close in recent years.
