This is the dramatic moment drivers battled through lake-effect snow in Indiana.

Footage captured by Chris Luft shows heavy snowfall blanketing La Porte on November 10 as vehicles pass through the area.

Authorities said the weather event was linked to a Winter Storm Warning from the National Weather Service, forecasting 3–6 inches of snow with localised higher amounts.

The heavy, wet snow weighing down tree limbs created hazardous travel conditions and raised the risk of power outages.

Travellers were advised to exercise caution as the snowfall intensified.

Lake-effect snow is a weather phenomenon that happens when cold, dry air passes over a relatively warmer body of water, such as a large lake. As the air moves over the water, it picks up moisture and heat, causing the air to rise and form clouds.
