This is the dramatic moment the northern lights were seen in the night sky above Minnesota.

Footage shows the vibrant green and red bands of the aurora above the silhouettes of trees on November 11.

This natural spectacle is usually confined to regions above the Arctic Circle. However, a sudden G3-level geomagnetic storm pushed them far enough south to be visible in parts of the United States.

The aurora borealis, also known as the Northern Lights, is a natural light display caused by charged particles from the Sun interacting with Earth's magnetic field and atmosphere.
