China: China sees robust growth in equipment manufacturing in first 10 months
Storyline: China's equipment manufacturing sector has demonstrated robust growth, with the value-added output of large-scale manufacturers rising by 9.5 percent year on year in the first 10 months of 2025, official data showed on Friday. New demands from the digital and platform economy continue to expand, driving the rapid development of emerging industries and accelerating the cultivation of new growth drivers, said Fu Linghui, spokesman and chief economist of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) at a press conference in Beijing. Fu highlighted the ongoing transformation of China's industrial structure, with advanced manufacturing and modern services making up a growing share of the economy. The manufacturing sector is steadily moving up the value chain, and equipment manufacturing has become a key pillar supporting overall industrial production. Growth has been particularly prominent among manufacturers above the designated size, namely those with annual business revenues of at least 20 million yuan (about 2.8 million U.S. dollars), said Fu. "From January to October, the added value of equipment manufacturers above the designated size rose 9.5 percent compared to the previous year, accounting for 36.1 percent of the total added value of industrial enterprises above the designated size. The sector contributed 58.7 percent to the overall growth of industrial value-added output. As the service sector increasingly integrates with advanced manufacturing, modern services are demonstrating strong development momentum," he said. Since the start of the year, new and emerging industries have gained significant momentum. The production of smart equipment and electronic components surged, with their added value increasing by 11.1 percent and 12.3 percent, respectively, Fu said.
