Light rain began moving into portions of Los Angeles on Friday as a developing Pacific storm system edges closer to the California coast. Forecasters say a weak atmospheric river will brush the region through Saturday morning, bringing periods of steady rain, gusty onshore winds, and the chance of isolated thunderstorms mainly offshore. A positively tilted upper trough is positioned just off the West Coast, with an upper low sliding south and helping to deepen surface pressure near the Channel Islands. That setup is expected to enhance moisture transport into Southern California overnight, increasing rainfall coverage across coastal and valley areas. While most thunderstorm activity is expected to remain over the ocean, the system could still deliver downpours and urban flooding in low-lying spots. Snow is possible at the highest elevations, though impacts are expected to be minimal.
