GAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - NOV. 16: Search operations continued on Sunday, Nov. 16, in the Gaza Strip to recover and hand over the bodies of Israeli captives, as part of the ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement reached between Israel and Hamas.

Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, and officials from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) are continuing the search for the captives' bodies in the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City.

The operations, which were previously suspended due to worsening weather conditions, resumed this morning with the coordinated effort of heavy machinery and search teams.

Hamas has released 20 Israeli captives alive and handed over the remains of 27 out of 28, since a ceasefire deal took effect on Oct. 10. Israel, however, claimed that one of the received bodies did not match any of its listed captives.

Phase one of the ceasefire deal includes the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. The plan also envisages the rebuilding of Gaza and the establishment of a new governing mechanism without Hamas.

Israel has killed more than 69,000 people, mostly women and children, in attacks in Gaza since October 2023 and reduced it to rubble.
