A murder investigation has been launched as West Midlands Police cordoned off several roads in Birmingham after a man in his 20s was stabbed to death on Sunday evening.

Forensic officers were photographing the scene and a large blue tent was erected when the victim lay at the junction of Hutton Road and Stamford Road in the Lozells area of the city.

The cordon stretched for over 200 metres along Hutton Road.

Evidence markers were placed in several locations showing crucial points of interest.

As the investigations continued, the force’s Drone unit were deployed along with several armed officers as they believed the attacker may still have been in the local area.

West Midlands Police said in a statement: ‘We have launched a murder investigation after a man tragically died in Birmingham yesterday evening (Sunday).

‘We were called to reports of a stabbing on Hutton Road, Lozells, at around 5.20pm.

‘A man in his 20s was found with serious injuries, and despite life-saving attempts from members of the public and ambulance colleagues, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this deeply distressing time.

‘We’re in the early stages of our investigation, a scene remains in place and there is an increased police presence while we carry out urgent enquiries in the area and establish exactly what happened.

‘We would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information to get in touch with us.

‘You can do so via Live Chat on our website or by calling 101 quoting log 3135 of 16 November.’
