West Midlands Police have cordoned off a playground in Birmingham after a man was stabbed receiving serious injuries.

The attack happened in Swanhurst Park close to Yardley Wood Road which was also cordoned off by officers as investigations continued into the mans knifing.

A detective spoke to a witness who caught part of the incident on his phone and it seemed to have happened in a corner of the playground as the detective discussed the footage with another officer and then looked at the spot they believed the stabbing to have happened inside the play area.

The park and road are within the Billesley area of Birmingham and close to the areas Community Fire Station.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: ‘We were called to Yardley Wood Road at around 2.35pm this afternoon after a man was stabbed.

‘He was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition. 

‘We are in the early stages of our investigation and would urge witnesses or people with information to contact us via Live Chat on our website or by calling 101 quoting log number 2746 of 24 April.
