China: China's 3D printer manufacturers expanding global footprint
Storyline: China's 3D printer manufacturers expanding global footprint [Voice_over] Chinese 3D printer makers are building a strong global presence with export demand showing no sign of abating. In the southern tech hub of Shenzhen, a powerhouse for the industry, one 3D printer company has seen sustained growth in overseas sales. [Sound_bite] Chen Zhixing, Marketing director, 3D printer manufacturer in Shenzhen: "Our primary market is still the United States. The overall growth is between 40 percent and 50 percent year on year. A new trend we're seeing is that besides the U.S. and Europe, countries in Latin America, Southeast Asia, and even the Middle East and North Africa are purchasing our products." [Voice_over] The relentless influx of overseas orders has kept production lines running at full capacity. The factory manager says there is no off-peak season. [Sound_bite] Liu Yongfen, Factory manager, 3D printer manufacturer in Shenzhen: "Our monthly production is around 100,000 units. We're effectively in a peak season all year. We operate on a pre-stocking model, with 200,000 to 300,000 machines constantly on hand and ready to ship." [Voice_over] According to customs officials, in the first three quarters of the year, Shenzhen's 3D printer exports increased by 14 percent year on year to over 800 million U.S. dollars, representing about 79 percent of the country's total exports in this category.
