China: China builds world's largest water conservancy infrastructure network over past 5 years
Storyline: China builds world's largest water conservancy infrastructure network over past 5 years [Voice_over] Officials from China's Ministry of Water Management say over the course of the past five years, the country has managed to build the largest water conservancy infrastructure network in the world. Between 2021 to 2025, China invested about 420 billion U.S. dollars in water conservancy diversion, and irrigation projects, which have boosted the nation's total water supply capacity to 900 billion cubic meters. Work on the country's South-to-North Water Diversion Project is progressing with 83 billion cubic meters of water already having been delivered to some 195 million people. By the end of the year, coverage is expected to be at about 80 percent. The country has also built 95,000 reservoirs that can hold one trillion cubic meters of water, ranking first globally in the number and types of reservoirs and the number of high dams. In addition, China has established the world's largest centralized rural water supply system, with 96 percent of the rural population expected to have access to tap water by the end of 2025.
