STORYLINE:
The core construction phase of an irrigation system to supply water to over 66,000 hectares of farmland was completed on Saturday in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
The Dateng Gorge Water Conservancy project started in 2014 and is located in the Pearl River Basin, in Guiping City. This project is a crucial part of the country's water network to control floods, facilitate shipping, generate electricity, and provide irrigation.
With a total investment of 8 billion yuan (about 1.1 billion U.S. dollars), the core construction process of the irrigation system was completed four months ahead of schedule, according to the constructors.
China is accelerating the construction of water conservancy projects amid efforts to expand domestic demand, stabilize its economy, and promote high-quality development.
