Storyline: A series of crude bomb explosions that rattled Dhaka on Sunday have prompted overnight security reinforcement throughout Bangladesh's capital and other regions, according to police. There were no casualties reported in the explosions. The blasts exacerbated existing tensions in the city already shaken by days of turmoil. They came one day before Monday's verdict on former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and two of her top aides for alleged involvement in violence during last year's street protests. A special tribunal in Dhaka on Monday sentenced Hasina in absentia to death for crimes against humanity during the country's July uprising in 2024. The tribunal has ordered 78-year-old Hasina to return from India and face trial. She is accused of ordering a violent police response to a student protest, which led to her being removed from power last year. Bangladesh's former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was also awarded the death penalty, while former Inspector General of Bangladesh Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun was sentenced to five years' imprisonment in the case.
