Footage shows a ceiling collapse accident at the Changle Tianjie Shopping Center in Xincheng District, Xi’an, Shaanxi Province. The mall opened on November 14, just three days before the incident.

At around 11 a.m. on November 17, 2025, approximately 30 square metres of gypsum-board ceiling suddenly fell, crashing from the 3rd floor down to the 1st floor. Witnesses said the sound was extremely loud, “like firecrackers going off.”

The accident injured eight people: three sustained fractures, four suffered minor injuries, and one had a slight foot injury. All injured individuals were promptly taken to the hospital for treatment.

The mall has been closed for rectification. Relevant departments in Xincheng District have set up an accident investigation team, a medical assistance team, and others to handle the situation. Those responsible have stated they will fully cooperate with the investigation, thoroughly address safety hazards, and handle all follow-up matters. They also apologised to the injured and their families and have assigned personnel to follow up on medical care, support, and compensation.
