An expectant mother carrying twins was left stunned when her bump suggested she had been pregnant for more than a year.

Ashley Bishop, 32, went to her final check-up before giving birth, where doctors measured her fundal height – the distance from the top of the womb to the pubic bone.

To her shock, her measurements suggested she had been pregnant for 53 weeks - far in excuse of the 38 weeks of her pregnancy.

Ashely, a rehabilitation counselor from Baltimore, Maryland, said: "It was a crazy experience"

"I had a check-in the day before I delivered and they measured me at 53 weeks. "

"I couldn't believe it. My belly has been big since three months; I already looked six months along!"

The mother-of-twins discovered at just four weeks pregnant that she was expecting two babies.

Ashley said: "My husband and I were very surprised. "

"He was sweating in the doctor's office as we were watching the screen."

Ashley revealed that her fundal height seemed to grow two to three weeks at every appointment.

"To me, that was just so rapid," she recalled."

The day before she was due to give birth, Ashley suffered a uterine rupture, where her uterine wall tore, prompting doctors to schedule an emergency C-section.

Ashley said: "One early morning around 2am, I thought my water broke."

"But when we turned on the lights, it was actually blood. I called my OB, and since the hospital I was scheduled at had both operating rooms booked, I had to go to another hospital."

Ashley gave birth to her daughters the next day via emergency C-section, Aría weighed 6lbs 4oz, and Angel 6lbs 12oz.

Describing the experience as "wild," Ashley added "It all ended perfectly with our beautiful girls."
