Sweden Rejects Territorial Concessions as Peace-Plan Debate Intensifies. Sweden declares it will never recognise Russia’s annexation of Crimea or any occupied Ukrainian territory, stressing that borders cannot be changed by force. Foreign minister Maria Malmer Stenergard says a lasting peace must include full freedom for Ukraine to arm and defend itself. The statement follows Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s update on peace-plan discussions, delivered via video to the Crimean Platform summit in Sweden. Zelenskyy says Kyiv will keep working on potential compromises but only those that strengthen, not weaken, Ukraine’s position. He insists Russia must pay for the war and that decisions on using frozen Russian assets are essential to any peace agreement. Ukraine’s parliamentary speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk says EU and NATO membership goals must be included in Ukraine’s security guarantees. He outlines Kyiv’s “red lines”: no recognition of occupied territories, no limits on Ukraine’s defence forces and no restrictions on future alliances. Hungary breaks ranks with much of Europe as foreign minister Peter Szijjarto calls the US 28-point plan “a major chance” for peace and says European leaders should back it unconditionally.
