BYD Recalls Nearly 89,000 Plug-In Hybrids Over Battery Safety Concerns. Chinese automaker BYD has announced an immediate recall of 88,981 plug-in hybrid vehicles due to safety issues linked to their power batteries. The recall affects Qin PLUS DM-i models manufactured between January 2021 and September 2023. Regulators say inconsistent power battery packs produced during manufacturing could cause reduced power output. In severe cases, the defect may prevent the cars from operating in pure electric mode, according to the official statement. The decision follows a defect investigation launched by China’s market regulator.
