This is the shocking moment a lithium battery exploded and burst into flames inside a repair shop.

The device, which was purchased five years ago, was taken to technician Thanawatchai, 24, after the owner noticed the battery had swollen in Tak, Thailand.

CCTV footage shows the blast on the worker's table before flames erupted on October 3.

Thanawatchai quickly wheeled back on his swivel chair before rushing forward again to extinguish the blaze.

He then kicked the device away and carried it outside to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Thanawatchai said: 'The customer left the battery swollen for too long. When I placed it in the heating machine to remove the backplate, less than two minutes after setting the temperature, it probably received too much heat and exploded.'

The blast damaged his heating machine, but the technician offered to buy the customer a replacement phone.

He added: 'Please replace batteries if they become swollen or reach the end of their life. Avoid exposing them to heat or humidity, as this can be dangerous if not stored properly.'

No one was hurt and the fire did not spread further.
