China: Skilled animators draw new career paths in China
Storyline: Skilled animators draw new career paths in China [Voice_over] In China, job seekers are increasingly finding employment in so called "labor brands" - groups of workers with similar and distinct skill sets that are particular to one industry. In northeast China's Shenyang City, a group for animators-the Shenyang Animators Industry Association- channels a steady flow of qualified animators into the industry through dedicated training. According to the group so far this year, they've trained more than 1200 students, with about 200 securing international animation positions as a result. At one animation industrial park in the city, more than 30 trainees are attending a class on animation techniques. Some students are venturing into the industry without a related degree. [Sound_bite] Hai Yanni, Trainee, animation skills training school in Shenyang: "I didn't major in this field, so I knew I might face some hurdles. But my passion for animation helped me get through them, one by one. I'm very optimistic about this industry's future. There are great opportunities not just here in Shenyang, but also in cities like Beijing, Hangzhou, and Chengdu." [Voice_over] In addition to technical skills, the training programs place strong emphasis on performance skills and hands-on project experience. [Sound_bite] Han Xiaoqiao, Trainer, animation skills training school in Shenyang: "The program includes three months of foundational courses and two months of practical training. Students get to participate in real projects and receive guidance from technical directors or animation directors." [Voice_over] The "Shenyang Animators" initiative has now trained 30,000 professionals, generating more than 700 million U.S. dollars in annual service income.
