This is the amusing moment a herd of elephants tucked into a fruit buffet on the street during an animal festival.

Tuskers wearing gold caparisons munched on nearly 50 tonnes of fruits and vegetables laid on a table during the Surin Elephant Festival in Thailand.

Footage shows the pachyderms wearing colourful elephant crowns and trappings surrounded by locals on November 21.

The animals can be seen using their trunks to grab the cut fruits and vegetables while other festival-goers hand them snacks.

Meanwhile, their mahouts sat still on their backs.

Local media reported that more than 200 elephants joined the festivities. The annual cultural festival was held from November 15 to November 26 at Surin Stadium and Si Narong Stadium for the main events.

The festival also featured an elephant parade and performances like soccer matches and mock battles. Other activities include folk arts and culture shows, a farmers' market, and exhibits.
