Ozzy Osbourne has been posthumously awarded Birmingham's highest civic honour on what would have been his 77th birthday today (Wed).

Wife Sharon, 73, and daughter Kelly, 41, were on hand to receive the Lord Mayor's Award on behalf of the city's most iconic son.

The legendary rocker died on July 22 aged 76 following his Back to the Beginning farewell performance at Villa Park on July 5.

Today the Deputy Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Ken Wood posthumously presented the Lord Mayor's Award to Ozzy.

In a statement, the Osbourne family said: "We are deeply touched to receive this award in honour of Ozzy. "

"He was so loved by the people of Birmingham so it is great to come back and see the impact he has had in his hometown and how he continues to inspire generations of Brummies' and fans across the world. "

"I would like to thank the Lord Mayor for this special recognition."

The Lord Mayor, Councillor Zafar Iqbal MBE also presented books of condolence to the family at the private event.

He said: "Ozzy was and always will be a proud and much missed son of Birmingham. "

"Having achieved worldwide success, he never forgot his Brummie roots, so I am honoured to present the award to his family in a fitting tribute of everything he has done for our city. Ozzy forever."

Earlier in an emotional tribute on Instagram, Kelly wrote: "Happy birthday daddy you most certainly did not die an ordinary man! "

"Life without you is hard but not a day goes by that I don't dedicate my life to loving you and your legacy! "

"I miss you more than anything in the world. "

"I love you until eternity! What I would not give to watch you blow out just one more candle."

Sharon also paid her own tribute on social media and wrote: "My darling husband, I celebrate the day you were born. I will never let go of your hand until I see you on the other side."

The council said the award honours Ozzy's outstanding service to Birmingham, acknowledging his impact on the city's cultural and musical identity.
