1. VARIOUS OF DRONE SHOTS OF SYRIANS GAHTERED IN HAMA CITY CENTER TO CELEBRATE FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF BAATH REGIME’S DOWNFALL HAMA, SYRIA - DEC. 5: Thousands of Syrians gathered in Hama after Friday prayers on Dec. 5, chanting the slogan "Free Syria" and singing revolutionary songs to celebrate the first anniversary of the Ba'ath regime's downfall.
Aladdin Maghrabil, who celebrated the regime's overthrow, expressed his joy at being present to share in the happiness of all Syria, stating that "God saved us from the oppressors".
Another participant, Anas Ahmed al-Naim, stated they wanted to share the joy of Hama's "day of freedom," referencing the 60 years the regime oppressed the public. Al-Naim called the day a "blessing from our Lord" and vowed to protect it.
The demonstration marks the first anniversary of the December 8 revolution, yet the scale of destruction across Syria remains staggering.
The Ba'ath Party regime, which had been in power since 1963, ended when Syria's leader for nearly 25 years, Bashar al-Assad, fled to Russia in December 2024. A new administration led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa was formed in January.
