UNCAPTIONED: Lily Allen 'having conversations' about turning West End Girl album into a play
Lily Allen 'having conversations' about turning West End Girl album into a play. The Fear singer made a splash when she released her explosive album in October as the record appears to tell the story of the breakdown of her marriage to Stranger Things actor David Harbour after four years in December last year. Told in chronological order, the shockingly candid album features lyrics about an open relationship, alleged infidelity, and starting over. Allen has now confirmed that rumours of her adapting her fifth album into a show on London's West End are “true”. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday night, the British singer was also asked if she was "involved" in that process. ”I might be... The ink is not dry - is that what they say? Something like that?" she teased. "But, you know, I'm definitely having some conversations with people about it. It's very exciting.” Allen is no stranger to the London stage. She made her West End acting debut in 2:22 A Ghost Story in 2021 and has since gone on to star in plays such as Martin McDonagh's The Pillowman and a revival of Henrik Ibsen's Hedda Gabler. Her new album opens with the title track, West End Girl, in which she appears to reveal that the cracks in her marriage began to show when she booked her role in 2:22 A Ghost Story, and relocated to London from their home in New York City for its run. The 40-year-old will go on tour in the U.K. and the U.S. next year to support the release. Lily Allen Performs West End Girl, in which she performs the album in order and in its entirety, begins in March and runs until July.
