Storyline: China races ahead in next-gen uranium mining [Voice_over] Building on the latest domestic breakthroughs, China is making new strides in smart and sustainable uranium mining. Leading the charge is the "National No.1 Uranium" demonstration project, the largest natural uranium production base nationwide by capacity, which delivered its first barrel of output this past July. Located in north China's Ordos City, this crown jewel of China's third-generation uranium technology fuses smart systems with sustainable practices. Most notably, it uses a CO2 and O2 in-situ recovery technique, which dissolves uranium underground so it can be pumped up to the surface through a fully closed loop for minimal environmental affect but maximum operational efficiency. [Sound_bite] Wang Ruyi, on-site chief, "National No.1 Uranium" demonstration project: "This is our production control center. From a thousand miles away, we can mine uranium with one click and monitor everything on a single screen. ‘National No.1 Uranium’ is the flagship achievement of China’s third-generation in-situ leaching technology — turning solid uranium ore into a liquid solution, dramatically simplifying the mining process and improving safety." [Voice_over] The same advanced technologies are transforming uranium mining across multiple regions in China, unlocking the potential of vast deposits that were once considered uneconomical or too challenging to develop. [Sound_bite] Su Xuebin, chief engineer, China National Uranium Co., Ltd.: "This project has unlocked efficient development of China’s low-grade and complex uranium resources. The second major breakthrough is through innovation in key equipment, one single facility can now produce over 1,000 tons, up from less than 100 before." [Voice_over] According to data from the China Energy Research Society, China's total nuclear power generation capacity, including units in operation, under construction, or officially approved, ranks first worldwide.
