Man makes girlfriend giant 4ft Jellycat advent calendar - with £720 worth of toys
A man spent £250 making a giant 4ft Jellycat advent calendar for his girlfriend - filled with £720 worth of 25 Christmas themed plushies.
Hannah Bierman, 24, had the idea to make the calendar after becoming obsessed with the viral toys - and has a collection of 200 Jellycat's, worth £5.5k.
She took to B&Q with boyfriend Declan Quinn, 22, to get the materials to make the design - spending £250.
Declan built the giant advent calendar in two weeks - which is topped with fake snow, and a Jellycat logo.
Behind the doors is a new Christmas-themed Jellycat which Declan has bought Hannah - and so far she has received the likes of a large Amusable snowflake, and an Amusable mince pie.
Hannah, a care support worker for the elderly, from Edinburgh, Scotland, said: "I knew a few people were planning on doing advent calendars. "
"I thought if I'm going to do this I'm going to go all out – I love a project. "
"Luckily my partner is very handy so I was like, ‘right, let's go to work'. "
"He mapped it out and got an idea of measurements and we went to B&Q got loads of wood and it started from there really. "
"We just had to go with our imagination as we've done nothing like this before so we were doing it as we went along. "
"It took two weeks to make. "
"He did an amazing job. "
"They're [each advent gift] all brand new – Declan has been collecting them for me for a few months as obviously it's going to be a lot of money."
"I've struggled with anxiety this year and leaving house and panic attacks. "
"It gave me a focus and purpose making videos for people. "
"In a way they did save me". "
Hannah bought her first Jellycat three years ago – an amusable cactus - sparking her love for the brand.
But it wasn't until January this year that she started her collection when she started struggling with anxiety and panic attacks and found the Jellycat's gave her "a purpose". "
She said: "I walked into Dobbies one day and there was a Jellycat left on the shelf and it was reduced in price. "
"It wasn't until January of this year when my mental health got quite bad I started taking my collection seriously. "
"I started getting more shelves in my room. "
"I thought I'll just post a few clips on TikTok and it went from there". "
Hannah prefers to go "Jellycat hunting" in physical shops where she can, but the discontinued – or "retired" - plushies prove harder to find and she has to search on reselling sites like Vinted. "
She said: "I have 200 in my collection. "
"I have spent £5,500 or around that. "
"I've always said the amusable watermelon is my favourite. "
"I love the amusables because they're things that have faces that aren't supposed to have faces. "
"My partner bought me the disco ball for our four year anniversary which was amazing and about £150". "
As well as the 25 new additions to her collection from the advent calendar, Hannah is hoping she is gifted even more Jellycats on Christmas Day.
Hannah said: "I'm after quite a lot of the ones that are hard to get and I know are a bit more money so I ask for them on special occasions. "
"I have asked for a few retired ones from Vinted". "
