Some fans had paid up to $133 for tickets in hopes of seeing the global football icon in person. The situation quickly escalated into chaos as angry spectators threw ripped-up stadium seats, bottles, and other objects onto the field. Parts of the stadium were damaged as security personnel struggled to control the crowd. Fans expressed outrage that they were unable to see Messi properly during his short appearance. The Argentine star was surrounded by heavy security, along with politicians and celebrities, which blocked the view for much of the audience. Many attendees said the experience fell far short of what had been promised by event organizers.
