Boys to be sent on courses to tackle misogyny in schools. Teachers in the UK are set to receive new training to identify and challenge misogyny in classrooms as part of the government’s plan to halve violence against women and girls within the next decade. The long-delayed strategy, due to be unveiled on Thursday, focuses on preventing the radicalisation of young men by addressing harmful attitudes early. Pupils will be taught about consent, the risks of sharing intimate images, healthy relationships and how to challenge damaging myths about women. Schools will also be encouraged to refer high-risk boys for additional support, including specialist behavioural courses aimed at tackling prejudice against women and girls. The £20 million package includes a new helpline for teenagers worried about abuse in their own relationships. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said toxic ideas were taking hold too early and too often going unchallenged while safeguarding minister Jess Phillips described violence against women and girls as a “national emergency” requiring cultural change.
