Starmer Says He Will Lead Labour Into Next Election. Sir Keir Starmer says he will lead Labour into the next general election, urging his party not to waste time on internal leadership rows. In a new interview with the Daily Mirror, the Prime Minister insists he's "utterly focused" on the cost of living crisis despite a turbulent week of speculation about his future at the top of the Labour Party. It comes ahead of Rachel Reeves’s 26 November Budget, which Starmer says will have "Labour values right through it.” But a YouGov poll suggests almost half of Labour voters think he should step down before the election. Starmer says the only thing that matters is tackling rising costs, calling it the single biggest issue for the country. He stresses that his government’s priority is making people feel “better off”, warning that every minute spent on party drama is a “minute wasted”. Expected Budget measures include freezing prescription charges and expanding free breakfast clubs for primary schools.
