Storyline Zootopia 2 film release fuels surge in orders at "world's supermarket" [Voice_over] As Disney’s Zootopia 2 hits theatres across the globe, sales of related toys and gear are heating up in east China’s Yiwu City, the world’s biggest hub for small commodities. At one stall, officially licensed toys, including rabbits depicting Officer Judy Hopps and foxes depicting Nick Wilde, are drawing crowds of shoppers. For cross-border business operators, the film's success has translated into robust export orders as well. [Sound_bite] Gulinaizair Kurban, cross-border e-commerce buyer based in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region: "I'm running an overseas e-commerce shop, and came specifically to purchase merchandise like Zootopia plush toys, bags and keychains. This is my fourth procurement trip here this month." [Voice_over] Vendors said even before the movie was released, they began negotiations with business partners to secure licensing rights and to place advance orders. [Sound_bite] Bao Niya, vendor, Yiwu Global Digital Trade Center: "We've been in the licensed intellectual property business for over a decade. For a major franchise like Zootopia, we placed orders with factories four months ahead, tripling or even quadrupling our usual purchasing volume. Sales of related merchandise have risen about 30 percent compared to last month, and we now carry over 150 stock keeping units across categories such as plush toys, keychains, and bags." [Voice_over] E-commerce data underscores the Zootopia 2 product rush. On JD.com, one of China's largest online platforms, searches for "Zootopia" jumped 225 percent in the film's opening week.
