1. VARIOUS OF WAYMO DRIVERLESS CARS STALLED ON CITY STREETS CALIFORNIA, SAN FRANCISCO, US - DEC. 20: Waymo driverless cars stalled during a major power outage in San Francisco, California, US, on Saturday, Dec. 20.
The outage affected parts of the city, where the autonomous vehicles were seen stopped on roads as electricity was disrupted.
The power outage disrupted daily life across San Francisco, cutting electricity to a large number of households and businesses. The interruption began earlier in the day in several neighborhoods, including areas near the Richmond District and Golden Gate Park, before spreading to other parts of the city.
Emergency officials said an incident involving electrical infrastructure contributed to the outage, while investigations into the cause continued. The loss of power led to traffic signals going dark, temporary closures of businesses and delays in public transportation services. City authorities advised residents to limit travel as restoration work continued. Utility provider PG&E said electricity service had been partially stabilized, though full restoration timelines remained uncertain.
